Five minutes in to episode 2 and it’s clear that Winkler owns this show. How was that not obvious to me in the pilot?

Ha, wait until E4, he really owns that one.

This show is a ball. Last night's E4 really raised the emotional stakes for Barry; we can already see his real world and his fantasy world starting to collide in dangerous ways.

E5 is my favorite thus far.

Spoiler: show
Hader is starting to turn in an emotional performance; loved seeing him lose his cool during the MacBeth reading in his acting class. Goran continues to make me laugh out loud. "What can I say, I'm a gearhead!" :haha: Loved the "Leroy Jenkins!" reference too.

But my gosh, Stephen Root is a monster. Watching him cajole Barry into doing the raid, covered in bruises and wearing nothing but a towel, all avarice and control...And then the way his whole energy changes when Barry agrees to go along with it. I hope they don't kill his character off any time soon, because he's such an animal on the screen.

This show is starting to lose me. It had promise at first, but it has made a lot of choices that I don't like and I'm not sure what the point is

This past week's was the best of the season. Really good and a nice payoff to those of us who have kept up. I'm watching next week's finale; not sure if I will be back next season though if HBO renews it.

I feel like I'm watching a different show. This is my favorite thing on TV right now, and it seems like they are about to stick the landing on what has been a terrific season for a show with excellent writing, killer performances, and a totally unique story.

This may be one of those shows that's better if you binge it instead of watching in weekly installments.

Yeah, I just watched the first 7 episodes in like 3 days lol

I am pumped for the finale, mostly because I have no idea where it will go. The emotional gut-punch of Barry in the dressing room in Ep 7 is the kind of thing many seasons go out on, so I doubt they can top that sort of resonance. I also don't know where Season 2 will go, which is exciting.

Also: Stephen Root is lord of everything. Just a great, great actor.

I'll say this for the show; they know how to do a final scene of an episode.

Winkler & Hader won Emmys for acting. Winkler was very good in his role but it kind of felt like a Lifetime Achievement Award for his collective career too. He had been nominated several times before but never won. Hader seemed genuinely surprised to win. His nominated episode had to be the next last to episode where his work absolutely stood out.
I have not thought much of show since it wrapped for the season (it will be back) but in retrospect, yeah, it was pretty good.

Bill Hader has some serious Bill Murray in a drama potential.

Yeah, this show is awesome. Love all the characters, and there are some genuinely touching and shocking moments laced throughout all the funny bits. Well-deserved awards for Hader and Winkler.

what frustrates me is how many people seemed to watch the first couple eps and lose interest. The Barry character is learning to tap into his buried emotions as the season progresses, and there are some real fireworks by the time we get go the end

I love a good slow burn show like this one. People's tastes and what they expect out of TV and media in general don't really make much sense to me these days anyway, so fuck 'em.
