My aunt did this earlier this year, and it unearthed an man in Australia that my grandfather fathered(unbeknownst to him) during WW2. I now have an Australian uncle and cousins.

I find it interesting following the stories of others who have done this- and I have considered it for years but have not yet jumped- my co-worker found out her dad was not her dad and that she was not Italian, and gained a brother who lives not to far from her and they get along great. My dear friend from grade school, who was adopted, learned that her birthmother lied to the adoption agency and she did not have any Native American heritage, as she had thought for almost 50 years.
I have a full brother somewhere and keep thinking that this might be the key to finding him.
