No, you really don’t HAVE to watch the first one to see this one, but you’d probably understand a few things better. Pretty much everything is referenced in this one but it’s fleshed out better in the actual movie.

And Joe, you need to see them. Rudd is spectacular in them. Lilly is even better in this one, too.

I am absolutely head over heels in love with Evangeline Lilly. Paul Rudd is okay. I guess.
