While this news is very disheartening, I think we need to cut him a bit of a break. I think this decision was (most likely) based on the fact that PJ likely have more touring planned for 2014 than SG does right now, given that LB just came out a month ago and King Animal came out in late 2012. I mean I'm shocked me made it this far working/touring with both bands, it has to be pretty taxing with the travel alone...just my 2 cents. I'm heartbroken, too, though trust me--I also much prefer him with SG, but he's pretty damn good with PJ too.

Chris, Ben, Kim and I are in the process of finding the perfect substitute for the upcoming Soundgarden dates in 2014.

Superunknown is really the only soundgarden record I like a lot from start to finish. Other than that they've always been a band that produced a number of songs I loved and a whole bunch of stuff I just didn't give a shit about. Alice in Chains (who I liked more) was the same way. This was different than Pearl Jam, Nirvana, or the Trees where I was usually interested in listening to everything.
I need some kind of selective foe function that just blocks stip's posts about Soundgarden.

I like the Barrett Martin idea too.

On the human side I completely understand it; I'm sure PJ already have their dates booked (even if we don't know what they are yet) and SG just announced a handful of shows (6 for next year so far). This almost certainly tells me that PJ are touring Europe next summer and Matt cannot be in 2 places at once.
On the other hand, it isn't Soundgarden without Matt Cameron. I don't care who the replacement is (unless it's Chris Cornell).
I'm with everyone else wondering why PJ couldn't do even a single tour with Jack Irons (if he were willing). I mean, 75% of their set is stuff Jack played when he was in the band. I'm sure he could learn a dozen or so other songs from their more recent catalogue if he had to.

Endurance, I think.
Plus Jack Irons was in the band for like 3 years 15 years ago. I know people like his two records and everything, but I think the odds are probably much greater that someone else other than Jack would have replaced Matt anyway

If I was Matt I would have made the same decision. The more lucrative of the two bands happens to be the band where he is the most replaceable. You let those guys know they are your priority.

Now we'll never know what PJ sounds like with Matt Chamberlain or Loel Campbell on the drums.
