This is weird - "Andrew Watt (born October 20, 1990), also known as simply Watt (stylized as watt or WATT)" - considering there's already a pretty notable musical 'Watt' (Mike) and, even worse, the guy's name is actually Andrew Wotman.
It's pleasant enough in a fairly anonymous way, but I'll likely never listen to it again. The verses are pretty terrible though, both in lyrics and his vocal choices.

Very Tom Petty indeed. I liked it on first listen. After his Wildflowers cover (which I love and listen to a fair bit) this was a direction I was interested in seeing him going. Gonna give this a few more listens

I preferred the verses, but neither was that original

I like this - a few initial thoughts
The rest of Pearl Jam is really essential for adding some musical bite to these gentler, more level performances to elevate the song above pleasent.
that bridge piece kind of comes out of nowhere. nice outro - felt a little bit like the kind of mike solo I really go for
she took the long way on the freeway is not a good enough lyric to justify both the repetition and the fact that it does so much of the heavy lifting in the lyrics. Nice melody, though. it is catchy and comforting, and this feels like a comfort food song. I fully expect Earthling to be the Great British Baking Show of Eddie Vedder solo albums

Flag Day (which has a lot more lyrics, granted) has that sequence towards the end with the repetition of ‘one life is never enough’ which was a main idea the song spent its runtime anticipating and paying off. Plus its a more intriguing lyric.

I am pretty excited for a solo album. This and Flag Day has me nice and primed. Eddie works best with a longer runway where he can circle and explore and reinforce whatever idea he is trying to articulate, and so much of his solo stuff is presented as one off moments that dont have that interconnected space.

I am not expecting something revelatory, or even urgent, but thats what pearl jam is for. Warm, comfortable, welcoming, and low stakes would feel just fine. I have enough volume everywhere else in my life
Glad he's releasing music, even if it's nothing special. Always felt he needed Pearl Jam, but then Into The Wild was really good. Don't think he's released anything on that level since.
damn this was a great surprise!! New solo Ed! and with a fucking band!! So thats why this bastard was hanging with the Watt guy...i remember Olivia filming something that had the Watt guy, Josh, Chad, Robert Trujillo and Perry too...maybe future guests?
Really liked the new song. Yeah, its basically Tom Petty 01 but its nice, the melody is cool, loved the bridge..i really liked it.
Well this was certainly a pleasant surprise. Need to give it a few more listens; don't have a solid opinion yet. Tom Petty/REM vibes are spot on. Was not expecting all the instrumentation here....
I need to listen to this on something other than my phone while I'm holding it over my head first thing after waking up, but my first thought is that it's a continuation of EV's highway/escape songs, e.g. Gone, MFC, et al, as well as his unnamed third-person songs like Nothingman, heavy with Springsteen/Petty influence. Not my favorite (I prefer "Take the Long Way" to "Long Way," but I like the organ and the slide, and the little arpeggios, if that's what they're technically called.
