my first thought was 'saturday's alright for fighting'. also 'bennie and the jets' on speed. i barely recognize elton john's voice on here at first. the songs is fine, but its super cool elton john wanted to record with eddie vedder. it kinda blows my mind.
i thought highway to hell was terrible, which is a shame b/c i love all 3. its way, way, way too over produced. i didn't think the elton john track was terrible, but its forgettable. EV's cover of REM's 'Drive' is amazing and makes me completely look passed these other 2 songs.

Yeah, I definitely feel the Saturday Night vibe, upbeat fun. It’s okay, I definitely like the Ed vocals better than Elton’s. I’ve grown to appreciate Elton’s catalog a lot more as an adult so it was cool to hear he & Ed collaborated but Elton’s best stuff is mostly at least 35 years old. Those ‘70s piano tunes, mostly ballads, that made him famous are still fantastic and there’s a bunch of them. The song that won him his second Oscar, just a couple years ago, really wasn’t that great.

I think this is a good description. I don’t think I’d ever get through an Elton journey, but I might listen to the greatest hits from 50 years ago.

I enjoy John's catalog quite a bit but man are there significant peaks among incredible valleys, Taupin's involvement is a fairly important variable. That said, Songs from the West Coast is an album I always have in regular rotation.
