listening to this now for the first time since 2022 and I have to admit to shedding a tear; the album came out on the same day I woke up from my GRS surgery, so it'll always transport me to that hospital bed, earphones in, uncomfortable but quietly celebrating the first day of the rest of my life

Been going back to this album a lot this month, it’s better than I remember and like that the themes are not too heavy.
I watched the interview with Bruce for the first time and with Ed talking more about the inspiration for The Haves… it’s actually shocking. He has a song about a couple living in a tent city, around terminal drug use and how they have love that is something the Haves don’t… and then saying another song referring togoing horse riding with his wife and Bruce Springsteen on his ranch… it’s actually incredible that there are 2 songs like this on one album.
Does Ed think he isn’t one of the Haves? Or does he think that a couple in desperation need each other more, or it’s more genuine than what the Haves have? I wish he never shared the explanation because it’s a fine schmaltzy melody, but like…what is he on about?
