Been listening to the first Audioslave album. What a monster. Cornell shines trough the whole thing and you can really tell his influence in the melodies and how the band plays this music. Morello said that the bridges were pretty much all written by Chris and both Getaway Car and The Last Remaining Light sounds like songs from Euphoria Morning.
Wilk kicks ass so much in Hypnotize. Its fucking amazing...and Timmy C lines are huge. I prefer his work on the third album but man, his is so fucking tight here.

Im a big fan of the band itself, every album has something good...but yeah, that first album is incredible. The band learned so much from Cornell. He made them better musicians.
The third album was the band itself expanding themselves and kinda putting Chris into a different territory as a singer.

Ok, I actually enjoyed that. A few thoughts:
- nothing was really added to it by making it a full band arrangement, but it’s not bad at all - Dave A!! Goddamn I love watching him play drums. - Dave A has a big Jim Morrison gut! - ethnically speaking, Dave didn’t seem to have much in common with the rest of the band - I kinda dig the solo. His Van Halen finger tapping was very nicely done and so much better and tasteful than what VH would’ve done.
All in all a pretty good cover. Thanks for sharing it.

Believe me, I know how blasphemous this sounds, but:
I saw 2 shows on Audioslave's first tour in 03. One was at the Paramount in Seattle, about 2 rows back in the pit. It was one of the best, most crushing rock shows I've ever experienced to this day. And (here's the blasphemy) actually more exciting than the 3 times I saw Soundgarden. And that includes their first reunion show at the Showbox. I'm sorry everybody.

i thought that cover was pretty great actually, for that style of band. and I thought Dave did really well, and kept it under control while still being soulful
i think you can tell these guys have a lot of respect for cornell
i thought it was tasteful
and i think that Dave A should replace Matt Cameron in Pearl Jam
i also think that Dave A belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
and I also think that Vs. is an all time great rock album largely because of Dave's drum playing, which is sorely missed on other PJ records
and if Dave A ran for president, I would vote for him

That cover was fantastic. How is it that Dave A didn’t go right from PJ to another huge band? I can’t believe nobody scooped him up. He’d have been great in Foo Fighters.

yeah, that was weird. He did played for some years with Axl Rose.
It is weird that Dave seemed to go from "cover of drumming magazines" to being almost entirely off the radar. I'm surprised he hasn't done more drum clinics and things of that nature, you'd think he'd be a good fit for that kind of thing.
Is there any suggestion that Pearl Jam and/or their management poisoned the well for the guy in the industry? I remember quotes from Brad drummer Regan Hagar being convinced that had happened with the first Brad album, though who knows if that's not just a bit of sour grapes/paranoia.

yeah, one would have thought, especially in the mid/later 90s, that any band trying to ape the "Seattle" thing would have snagged "Pearl Jam's drummer" instantly.
i wonder if there was some sort of legal agreement? seems far-fetched and odd, but who knows. he didn't seem to be one that would have been ready to step away and not be in a big rock band anymore. but maybe he just thought he'd never reach that peak again, so why try?
