So the new Chris Cornell box set has a couple of songs from the Temple of the Dog gigs  I wish they would release them in total though

It wrecked me completely.

The box set is a good respective of his career and there are a few good live nuggets that are nice to have in good quality. But I'm hoping at some point we see more outtakes/b sides and live stuff from his solo tours and the TOTD reunion. Folks in Soungarden and Audioslave have always teased that there's lots more in the vaults.

Yeah, the first Audioslave album they were like "we have 40 songs recorded". Probably 40 ideas but whatever. Just based on the Civilian demos (which I still like more than the released album) there's at least other takes if not demos.

Some of these live cuts from the Soundgarden shows sound rough. The band sound great but Cornell is all over the place. It must be so hard to sing these technically demanding songs and play guitar in those weird time signatures.

Welp, those tickets went pretty fast. Unless you want the $6,500 row 2s that are still available. :( Oh well.

Been listening to the new compilation...its a very cool showcase of Chris's career for sure. I been mostly surprised on how i love Audioslave. Man, the music..is so massive, the groove, Cornell's voice...i wish they did a 4th album. Revelations is such a massive rock/funk/r&b album.

Another highlight is You Know My Name. What a song.

The only thing I dont like about Audioslave are the guitar solos, they don't seem to fit. I know the guy is supposed to be a virtuoso or something but I don't like the way he plays.

well, i love Morello but his work in the second album is not that good. Mostly the solos just suck. He was pretty much repeating himself. I think he said that in some interview that there were a lot of solos from the second and third album he didnt liked.

But he is wonderful in the first album. The whole band learnt how to be melodic and soft. Songs like The Last Remaining Light or Getaway Car are so good.

Tom is wonderful in those.

Yeah. First album is aces, second is more leave than take, but the third they started to come back. Moth is a standout.

i thought the justification for the odd solos when morello was with RATM was that it was part of 'challenging conventions' / 'people's notions of solos and music' etc ... which paired well with the nature of that band

but then he does audioslave and just turns around and does the same shit but at a lower quality grade and it's like 'ummm.... ok...?'

he's capable of playing other things well obviously (see Bruce Springsteen tours)

Spoiler: show
<braces for Bruce Springsteen insults>

Last Remaining Light is really great

Been listening to the first Audioslave album. What a monster. Cornell shines trough the whole thing and you can really tell his influence in the melodies and how the band plays this music. Morello said that the bridges were pretty much all written by Chris and both Getaway Car and The Last Remaining Light sounds like songs from Euphoria Morning.

Wilk kicks ass so much in Hypnotize. Its fucking amazing...and Timmy C lines are huge. I prefer his work on the third album but man, his is so fucking tight here.
