No. He didn't toured anywhere but that one state. In fact, I lied about seeing him preform live. He's only ever playded music in Texas.

I KNEW IT!!!! such a liar....im glad you come to terms with this.

We can move on now.

Blame it all on my roots...

I feel like his overall cultural penetration is super disproportionate to his sales numbers.

Fair enough. My apologies.

Doesn't change the fact that he's a force & heroes sculpt the landscape of American music.

No apology necessary, and no, it certainly doesn't. He completely altered the way the average American listener perceives country music, and set a new standard for the music's role in the commercial arena. I'm not a huge fan myself, but I can't disrespect that kind of influence.

I'm so glad you're around, KD.

We don't always agree (Garth included) but you're one of the smartest & most objective posters we have. You've got your head on straight and I appreciate these conversations with you. Thank you.

Likewise, Joey -- love ya pal.

Have you read Chuck Klosterman's essay on Garth Brooks? It's mainly about the Chris Gaines thing, but there is a passage where he discusses the "cultural penetration" thing that Jorge talks about. Because he's right -- his songs have very little "continued presence" in popular culture compared to other artists in that sales tier, but he also hasn't been relegated to the "classic country" canon either. He's kind of an anomalous figure that way.

I have not read that, no. But I'll look into it. I'd love to check that out. I'm just beginning to explore Chuck Klosterman.

The Dixie Chicks show last nigh was outstanding. They put on a fantastic show. Highly recommend checking them out live if you can.

Also, they covered Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U. Natalie Maines was fucking born to sing that song. Holy christ.

Saw them last weekend. Amazing fucking show.

I wasn't really looking forward to it, even though i'm a big fan. I hadn't seen them since 2000 and I thought it was going to be a greatest hits, going through the motions type show. Told my girlfriend on the way there that I really wanted to hear two songs, but they probably wouldn't play them. They actually played both (Easy Silence and Top of the World). They were among the highlights for me, along with Silent House and the bluegrass instrumental they did. But that Nothing Compares 2 U cover, holy shit that was incredible. Couldn't have said it any better - Natalie was born to sing that song.

Went to the Godiva festival just for an afternoon out really (you can only get out so much when you've got little ones). Was there for Scouting for Girls but the sound was Spike Islandesque, they didn't seem able to shelter the gigs sounds from each other (more than 1 were playing at the time) and I couldn't be bothered standing up to get closer as I'm not a Scouting for Girls fan. Still it was free. The worst thing is I couldn't hear what the singer said between songs.

It was my first time seeing them. I had nothing to compare it to and no expectations. I thought that train had passed and I missed my chance. I was just grateful to be in the room. And it was outstanding.

I'm glad to hear it exceeded expectations for you, too. That's awesome!

Seeing Martin Sexton tomorrow night. It'll be like the 10th time I've seen him, second time at City Winery. Pretty pumped about it.

I'm actually going with the same two people I was with last time at City Winery and we have the exact same table reserved. 8-)

Welp, as usual, Martin slayed last night. Fucking absurd show. Almost felt made for me. Great mix of "hits" and deep cuts. He played a song from his first album that I never thought I'd ever hear life and I wept. It was gorgeous and poignant. Seeing Martin Sexton live is... it's the fucking truth, man. It's a religious experience. Man!

I'll keep seeing that guy live as long as he keeps touring. :heartbeat: :peace:
