I just gave a listen for the first time since probably 2007. You guys are right, it's not good. There's a couple atmospheric tracks near the end that are decent but that's about it.
Apparently Year Zero took place last year. We all missed celebrating that fictional anniversary.
I do remember the ARG that played out during the release. All these weird websites and videos, people finding USB drives at shows with clues and stuff on it. Man, what a naïve time. Imagine plugging in a random USB drive you found on the ground at a NIN show in 2023.

But you put this next to any of the earlier albums on a shelf, I’m reaching for the older album nine times out of ten.
As a full album experience, absolutely. But there are such massive highs on this thing I would never dismiss it completely. I think it holds its own just fine in the age of the playlist.
You know what? I've played With Teeth 3.5 times this week and it keeps getting better. You've convinced me I was wrong, and now I'm looking forward to the definite edition that's coming.
I've been on the road for three days and listened to this album even more. I was a fool! It's barely a hair below The Fragile. 4.5 stars? Fantastic stuff. Love the whole thing top to bottom. Can't wait for the definitive edition.
Also, it was during that time that i felt they were everywhere, seemed like Trent was alright with press, videos, the live setting had this huge backdrop...it felt it was the first time without drama

Been enjoying revisiting everything between The Fragile and the most recent stuff. The only one I haven’t given a fair shake to yet is The Slip. How does RM feel about this one?

So I’m revisiting The Slip and I’m still mostly unmoved. While it improves on the immediacy of the production a fair bit from Year Zero, the songs just aren’t there. If I want in-your-face electronic drums and harsh guitars, I’ll just listen to Big Black, you know?
