- Carl Palmer (Emerson Lake and Palmer) - California Jam (Karn Evil 9 1st Impression Part 2 drum solo) on YouTube. Note: Carl was doing Neil Peart shit years before we ever heard of Rush; only better. - Buddy Rich - Go anywhere on YouTube (even the clip of him cursing out his band) - Brann Dailor (Mastodon) - very impressive! Brazil 2015 (High Road)
Jazz (and Jazz-inspired) drummers make the best rock drummers!!!!

I don't typically notice drummers but these guys stood out to me.
Stewart Copeland Matt Helders Dave Grohl
Checked into this thread to see how many posts before Helders was mentioned. Wasn't many. No follow up, though? He's the Arctic Monkeys drummer, if you didn't know. He's the undisputed mvp of the album Humbug, imo. I've seen them on 5 different tours, and I watch him more than any other drummer. He's phenomenal.

I think any drummer that has a drumbeat that makes a song instantly recognizable should be included here.
Roger Taylor - We Will Rock You A.J. Pero - We're Not Gonna Take It
Counterpoint: There are countless songs out there that are instantly recognizable after the first second or two. Whether it be a drum beat, vocal, piano, guitar riff, fuck - a synthesizer, you name it. Many of those songs totally suck and make you wanna puke. So the artist responsible shouldn't necessarily be included here.
