Chulahoma is great. My favorites are Rubber Factory and The Big Come Up. I am a fan of their catalogue, even with the shift from garage blues to straight ahead rock music with a larger band. The only album that was lacking in any way was Turn Blue, which still had some excellent songs on it.
That’s a great lineup. $200 is bonkers though. The Black Keys play for something like 90 minutes flat, so not worth it.
yea would be a great night at Red Rocks. But, have to remind myself that I saw the black keys at clubs that i fucking played at.
Fuck that shit.
Yeah, I saw them at a number of small places in NYC - Terminal 5, Irving Plaza, Bowery Ballroom (Auerbach), etc. probably 5 or 6 times. Saw them again at the Garden with Pearl Jam and on their own there a few years later up close). I can’t imagine paying so much to see them, especially because their sets go by so quickly.
I also saw Gary Clarke, Jr. at the Roots Picnic in Philly in maybe 2015? And then again at the Capitol Theatre in 2018, so I have seen him a bit.
On this side they would play with Yola, but I also recently saw Marcus King twice last year.
One of those shows I would love to see but wouldn’t overpay for. In Camden, the lawn seats are $29.50, the back section of seats $59.50 and the close seats and pit are $133.25. There some reasonable pricing to be had there.
Oh my god. Black Keys, Gary Clarke Jr and marcus king band at Red Rocks.,,
Black Keys as the opener and Marcus King Band the closer would be my order of presentation based on having seen all three live.
That’s fair. Even as the closer, the Black Keys set is too short and has been for many years. That they’ll charge hundreds of dollars to play 90 minutes is unfortunate. Marcus King charged me $20 and $22 respectively for at least 2 hours last year. My recollection of Gary Clarke Jr. was 2 hours for $40. All play quality sets though.
likes rhythmic things that butt up against each other

I love Gary Clark Jr, and I like a fair amount of Black Keys material, but I'm waiting on this. I'm hoping one of shows I can make undersells enough where cheap tickets end up popping up during that National Concert Week sale. Having seen Clark before, I can be content with the lawn for this.
New song: cover of Crawling Kingsnake which is going to be from Delta Kream, a blues covers album. The 6 minute version is fantastic. I wish they didn’t do an edited version. But if this is where this album is going I will be happy. While I really liked Let’s Rock, this is more blues less party rock. Reminiscent of Chulahoma.
Love the Black keys. Have all their records. Love some more than others but thats just fine.
however, this cover is right in my keys wheelhouse. Can't wait for the rest. Pre ordered!
So far the Black Keys have been the main collateral damage from going digital. I still get some albums from bands I need to have it from, but i did not purchase Let’s Rock. I have all the rest and have always enjoyed their music collectively, and Dan Auerbach’s side projects with Easy Eye Sound, and his other solo album, Keep It Hid. His work with Robert Finley was fantastic, as was the album he performed on with Marcus King.
1. “Crawling Kingsnake” (John Lee Hooker / Bernard Besman) 2. “Louise” (Fred McDowell) 3. “Poor Boy a Long Way From Home” (Robert Lee Burnside) 4. “Stay All Night” (David Kimbrough, Jr.) 5. “Going Down South” (Robert Lee Burnside) 6. “Coal Black Mattie” (Ranie Burnette) 7. “Do the Romp” (David Kimbrough, Jr.) 8. “Sad Days, Lonely Nights” (David Kimbrough, Jr.) 9. “Walk with Me” (David Kimbrough, Jr.) 10. “Mellow Peaches” (Joseph Lee Williams) 11. “Come on and Go with Me” (David Kimbrough, Jr.)
