I agree. But I think that were I raised in a cave, and had never heard of bands, that upon being explained of the concept and handed an early Metallica album, I'd expect the band to sound very much like what they actually sound like.

Obviously. And that's exactly my point. If what you like about a band's name or your primary measuring stick for it's value is that its a great advertisement for their music, then you're limiting the band and your own potential enjoyment.
