welp, finally crossed these guys off the list. I paid the most I"ve ever paid for a ticket for them, so it'll be the only time I ever see 'em. Great show all around though. As you can see below, a few hits but the rest were long jams.
Friday nights setlist:
Fear Inoculum Jambi The Pot Rosetta Stoned Pneuma Descending The Grudge
It was odd to me, Maynard spent more time offstage than on. Obviously cause the songs about mostly the other 3 jamming away for 10mins before the vocals come back in.
We were told "no pictures" in an email before the show and security was crazy strict about it. if they saw you trying to take a pic, you got hit with a 10,000lumens flash to the face, then if that didn't work, a lazer pointer in the eye. On warning 3, you were escorted out. I did see the cops take one guy away but I'm not sure if taking a pic was his crime.
Here's the pro pics I found:

seeing them here tomorrow night, couldn't pass up seeing a tool show on halloween. i don't expect anything different from the band, but the people watching could be a lot of fun.

show last night was great, they're really a modern day pink floyd, imo, or as close to it as i've seen. the band came out in those groucho marx glasses/moustache things and maynard handed out candy to people in the front at one point, but other than that the show was played straight up, with the same setlist as posted above except swamp song was played as the closer instead of aenema. danny carey is something else to watch/hear and deserves to be the centerpiece of the show like he is here. and though i kind of think the overzealous enforcement of the no cameras/videos is a bit much (like, there literally was a 'no photos/videos or you'll be removed' sign hanging on the back of pretty much every other seat in the arena), i will say that watching a show from the second level and opposite end of the arena of the stage with barely a phone screen in sight absolutely made the viewing experience far more enjoyable. so, in that sense, it was worth it and i'm glad they do it.

i remember i once told tommy that Tool is the “soundtrack to trailer park rape” and he thought that was really funny. do you remember that, tommy?
When I went to a Tool concert a couple years ago, I definitely got a good feel for who the average Tool fan were. I definitely felt mour safer at The National. I still love Tool, but mane, they sure does have a fucked up fanned base.
