Well, some of their topics are really silly. I remember years ago when I used to visit the Tool website in search of news, most of the posts were about Mayas and Crowley and stupid shit like that. I never quite understood if this was all schtick or if they really had or have those beliefs. Plus, Maynard's kind of a dick.
That being said, the music is great, and their lyrics are nowhere near as bad as they should be even when they're referring to those topics, so they got that going for them.
i think it's mostly just their webmaster and Danny that are heavy into the crowley/occult/mysticism stuff.
pretty sure they are mostly mocking those sorts of things.
For years I never bothered to look up their lyrics. Pretty funny stuff.
Their webmaster is a pretentious douche. I honestly think that 90% of the stuff he posts is intended to jerk their fanbase around. I stopped visiting their site because I got tired of his schtick.

I think there are some tongue in cheek aspects to it, but I think alot of that stuff ties into their whole "Think for yourself, question authority" "Prying open my 3rd Eye" outlook they have. Is some of it intentionally overdone to add to their image, or give them a little snicker when fans go batshit crazy over it? No question. I think you just have to look at their name to see what kinda sense of humor they have.
I've never bothered to look at their lyrics unless it was a song I was covering for a band, but they have great lyrics all in all, especially if you start comparing them to other heavy or progressive bands.

Clearly he's in his last year of a BA in tribal carving.

There will be a new album pretty soon. I believe maynard did vocals in oct-nov. my understanding is that the music is all but done. Dont know what the release plan is though

I think these guys have made a pretty honest career out of making incredibly good music, but also completely fucking with their audience.
I mean you guys haven't forgotten Maynard performing in his underwear back in the day right? Well, he had some special effects gizmo attached to the side of them, and people would just fixate on that thinking his underwear were going to fall down at any moment. They would almost pay more attention to that instead of the show itself. You know he did that on purpose, and I'm betting he used duct tape wrapped around his leg to hold it in place...
The more I think about it, this tweet pic is probably the cover to Adam's new comic. Sigh, nothing to see here...

Last I heard, a month ago at most, they were working on the album's centerpiece tune and expected the rest of the music to fall into place shortly based on past albums.

my info was second hand from a band member but of course i can't be 100%. either way the plan is to release some new music as soon as it is completed.

I wonder if they're planning on testing some material out during the April/May tour down here.
