Digging the new record, but I concur that the output is pretty lame. Look at bands like Clutch or The Sword who manage to put out new albums every couple years that are far more interesting than what Metallica's been doing.

I would, repeatedly. He's a one-note comedian so amateur he laughs at his own terrible jokes. But a lot of people find him endearing, and he seems very well-connected, so I guess there's that.

Yeah, i hate him. From the days of SNL....and im glad his career as an actor was a failure.

I saw him do standup once at my university. It was painfully awful. The guy is a hack. But...he seems to have a good idea about how to book artists and work with them, so I'll give him that too.
Speaking of Metallica, I stumbled upon a full video of my only Metallica show on YouTube recently. I got a really good one at the tail end of Jason's run in the band, and I've never really wanted to see them again despite my hero worship of their first four albums. They closed with this:
They also played "Blackened", which melted my brain into a million pieces. So so so good.

You don't include The Black Album as well? I'm not a fan of the first album, it sounds like shit and has some just plain bad songs.
I've seen Metallica on their Thru The Never tour. They put on a great show in the Pearl Jam style, turning a lot of songs into big campfire sing-a-longs with splashes of musical integrity sprinkled through out the show. Hetfield seems happy on stage, which is a far cry from the anger I always saw on videos. Must be weird as fuck playing Creeping Death when you're in a happy place in life.
The new album is better than expected. It's like they reviewed Death Magnetic and fixed all the major issues.

I love Kill 'Em All. Tons. The Black Album I love but I'm really, really, really sick of all the singles other than "Sad But True". I can listen to the first four albums any time and enjoy the hell out of it but I can only listen to the Black Album like once every few years.
