wow really? from jeff's substack it seemed that they were recording very recently so i assumed they were in earlier steps but i'd love something new lol
I've been doing a deep dive on the band's catalog for the first time, particularly the band's 2010s records, which I think are uniformly pretty great and underrated at this point. I'm also really looking forward to the YHF wealth of material; I haven't heard it all, but the amount of material that's already been released in terms of b-sides, demos, alt versions, make it fun for someone who's into a band's process.

this was the nudge I needed to come to my purchasing decision around the YHF reissue:
I just bought the standard 2LP remaster. I think the original album sounds amazing, but my jacket got some pretty gnarly damage to it. And the new one is a Chris Bellman cut, which is typically great news. I'm excited to compare the differences in the two masters, and this should arrive shortly after I buy some pretty awesome new speakers. I'll have fun burning them in with an A/B listen of one of my all-time favorite album.
I can stream the alternate versions and demos. Can't imagine I'll listen to them often enough to warrant a $250 purchase.

New album is called Cruel Country. First single is “Falling Apart (Right Now)”, and it should drop within 24 hours. In an interview, Jeff suggests the new album is more of a collaborative band effort than the last couple records.
