This is sneaky good but it's risky. If it lands in the perfect slot on the tracklist, it could be some serious glue to keep something like a double album together. If it lands wrong, it could make Cruel Country feel like a slog.
The song itself is lovely. Restrained, but with some little flourishes here and there that keep it interesting. Maybe it's just me projecting here, but so far the lyrics on this album feel a little bit like Jeff is working out some post-lockdown, post-Trump, post-everything big mood things that a lot of us are probably experiencing.

My favorite part of this new song is the ominous-yet-fragile bridge.
This song gets better and better with each listen. Have it on the headphones now. Some really jangly stuff going on in both channels. Do we know who produced this album?

Got tix for their Bozeman gig in Sept. A little miffed that presale balcony/booth seats were all sold out, because apparently there was another pre-sale that happened yesterday that wasn't mentioned in the Wilco mailer. I'm too old to stand for three hours.
I listened to A.M. today. I really liked it, and to my surprise I thought they sounded better the closer they veered towards a country sound than rock here. The rock wasn’t generic, but it wasn’t grabbing me like the countrier songs. I mean, it was all pretty good in the end. I started Being There, and so far that is pretty damn excellent. It is really dumb that I never really spent much time with Wilco.

looking forward to this one as well. i know if you're a paid subscriber to Tweedy's substack he's been posting songs from the album.
I actually came here to ask if anyone here subscribes to that today. I was looking at free samples yesterday and noticed him mentioning songs. I figured CH2 would be the only one here. Do you subscribe?
