That review is terrific, though the two songs that have been officially released are much more straightforward than Stereogum claims this album is, so...?
I read a different review that made it sound like more paint by numbers Wilco, but with an uptick in quality and ambition when compared to the last few. We'll see.

Man what I wouldn’t give to be in a band like Wilco. Supremely talented musicians able to add subtle color and bits of quirk to what are, at a basic level, really strong compositions.
That said, if you didn’t like the last two albums, you probably won’t like this song, because it sounds like it belongs on those two. The first single they released harkens back to their older stuff more.

Uncut Magazine did up a Wilco songs covered album for their CD this month. It was actually put together/arranged by Jeff Tweedy himself and apparently it's pretty damn good.
