The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
The problem is that the band is trying to accommodate Nels Cline's "sound," which often makes the songs languish.
Bottom line: this band misses Jim O'Rourke and/or Jay Bennet.
I actually disagree with that. I think the main reason Sky Blue Sky was so surprising to people was that everyone thought when Nels came on board they were going to go even further down the AGIB-guitar skronk rabbit hole. They've kept that live, but I think there's only been a few examples of things on their last records (Bull Black Nova, Art of Almost) where they've done what I think people were expecting more of when Nels came on.
Fuck I wish they would have gotten weirder and continued to grow in the direction of AGIB, but oh well.
I think their peak is obvious, but I think everything else is pretty well even. I think it depends when you came aboard as a Wilco fan. I didn't really care for them until a few years ago, when Cline was already an established member and I think their work with him is more interesting and what he does with the back catalog is an improvement.
Yeah, his son is drumming. I actually saw the band they've put together to tour the record last night. They played about a dozen of the new tracks. Diamond Light was the only skronky guitar song; most of the rest were more languid folk tunes. But they sounded beautiful, and the lyrics I was able to catch sounded fantastic.
There is a 4cd box set of rarities called "Alpha Mike Foxtrot" due out in November, as well as a best-of. I've got a bunch of the rarities on a homemade comp, it should be a good set.
I only wish they had cleaned up some of the YHF demos for inclusion on here -- but it looks like they're sticking exclusively with previously released stuff. Either way, it's a smart release. Rounding up stray one-offs into a convenient package is a service all artists should pay their discography at some point.

I'm thinking about preordering the vinyl.....i'll think it over and revisit the situation later tonight. Even the shirt is kinda cool
Also considering the vinyl set, considering how limited it is...but I don't know how often I'd listen to demos. I'm not a huge Wilco collector--I only have YHF and Kicking Television. Their LPs are way overpriced and have never come down, not even a bit.
