I lit up a joint as soon as the Star Wars portion of the set was over and the one usher that I was worried about immediately made a bee line towards us. By the time he got to us my friend was holding it and I was yelling at him to hide it. The dude was just "PUT OUT THAT CIGARETTE RIGHT NOW!" and my friend was like "ok no worries" and the usher walked away and we finished smoking it.

Went saw Jeff Tweedy again last night at one of his living room shows. Of interest was his comment that the band's new album is finished and coming out in the fall (supposedly with an announcement on the anniversary of the Star Wars release (whenever that was)). I don't know if he was messing around, but he said the album is called "Wilco Schmilco," and the album cover has cartoon panels of a girl whose headset wire came out, and some guy who holds it and makes it work, getting electrocuted in the process.

Take it for what it's worth.

Right on Chris, thanks for this. I love Star Wars.

Listening to Sky Blue Sky now, the songs are solid but the production still sounds super terrible. It's basically an album of demos of fully formed songs utilising a four track at best.

Wow, I love the production on that album. I interviewed the engineer (TJ Doherty) for Tape Op, and remain really impressed at the simple, full sounds he was able to get in their private studio, which is far from an ideal environment. I especially love the drum sounds.

What don't you like about it, Zeb?

I get what they were trying to do and they achieved that. I just think it sounds dull sonically and really out of step with the rest of their body of work.

The vocal capture is particularly disappointing.

I can see why you'd hear that record as "sonically dull." There's not a lot going on, everything is just sort of presented as-is. I like that approach when it's done "right" -- there are stripped-down productions that sound very neutered, and then ones that sound very earthy and organic. I put this one in the latter category. But you're right that it's a very understated affair compared to their other albums.

I really like Sky Blue Sky besides the opening track. I remember at the time that it was a pretty surprising departure considering A Ghost is Born and the tour that followed it.

Objectively speaking, I'd put Being There and YHF way higher, but it's a rare day when I actually want to listen to them any more.
