I'm sure a good number of us come across bootlegs, lets have a thread to share em, shall we?

I'll start off with a classic.

I fondly remember in high school (which for me was mid-90's) going to the local record store and seeing what Nirvana and Tool boots they had in stock that week. they were all crummy tapes either dubbed from a CD or another tape and usually had black and white xeroxed art...and they were the greatest things in the world to me at the time. That's where i first encountered the Nirvana Outcesticide series. i used to have a whole collection of bootlegged bootlegs  . i would eventually take the leap and order the "real" thing from some mail order company that advertised in the back pages of Hit Parader.

Badass story, mf. I had about 2GB of Smashing Pumpkins shows at one stage but my HD failed and I lost them. But that was back in my fanatical 15th year on this earth. I haven't sought out much since.

I did that too. Mostly Pearl Jam (duh) but have several Nirvana ones along with a few U2, REM, Chili Peppers and Pumpkins

This site is a great resource for lossless bootlegs

http://100greatestbootlegs.blogspot.com.au

They recently posted a DVD rip of soundboard audio from the fanmade DVD Radiohead at the Roseland Ballroom 2011, along with a recently surfaced upgrade to an REM gig from 1984 :nice:

Gawd, I just remembered someone asked me for this boot. Hopefully they found this.

I love Citizen Kane. Probably one of my fav boots of all time.

I only deal in studio boots, lost recordings, and demos these days.

I have a handful of tapes I made with permission around the DC area, but no time to go through them at this time.

VAN MORRISON
Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert 1973 [no label, 1CD]
Live at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA; Broadcast on April 18, 1973. Excellent mono soundboard.

The audio tracks from this show have previously circulated but as uploader eddiethecat noted, this is a very substantial upgrade to other circulating copies. Eddie also thanked chilton for the DVD upload on Dime (source of this show).

Meanwhile, wellclay posted this comment at Dime:

This has to be the performance Lester Bang references when he talks about Van in his Astral Weeks essay where he tries to boil that essence of Van down into something that you can put into words and talk about.

“1974, a late night network TV rock concert: Van and his band come out, strike a few shimmering chords, and for about ten minutes he lingers over the words “Way over yonder in the clear blue sky / Where flamingos fly.” No other lyrics. I don’t think any instrumental solos. Just those words, repeated slowly again and again, distended, permutated, turned into scat, suspended in space and then scattered to the winds, muttered like a mantra till they turn into nonsense syllables, then back into the same soaring image as time seems to stop entirely. He stands there with eyes closed, singing, transported, while the band poises quivering over great open-tuned deep blue gulfs of their own.”

Thanks to eddiethecat for all the efforts and for sharing the tracks at The Hunger City. Artwork posted at tela.sugarmegs.org - Thanks!

Early 2000s/Moon and Antarctica era Modest Mouse bootlegs are great. A lot of them may be soundboard. There's one from the Crystal Ballroom that I still listen to regularly. It has a great version of Trucker's Atlas, Cowboy Dan and All Night Diner.

Thanks for sharing that Neil boot, SNC. As an aside, I really enjoy the photos that came from that beach session you've included in the OP.

Sonic Youth, 1997.
Quote:
SONIC YOUTH
New York 1997 [no label, 1CD]
Live at West 54th St. Studios, New York City, New York; June 12, 1997. Excellent soundboard (extracted from TV/video broadcast?).

Think Sonic Youth and songs such as Death Valley ‘69, Teenage Riot, Star Power, Confusion Is Next, Expressway to Yr. Skull and (I’ve Got A) Catholic Block, to name just a few, easily come to mind. They may be noisy but there is a melody and there is a groove which sinks right in. But then again, Sonic Youth were also experimental and, in June 1997, the group released the Anagrama EP - the first in a series of experimental and mostly instrumental releases put out on their own SYR label.

It’s likely this show was recorded to promote the Anagrama release and is a wonderful (mostly) instrumental soundtrack that showcases a slightly different aspect of Sonic Youth. The tracks were recorded for PBS’s “Sessions at West 54th” television programme (telecast in August 1997).

Thanks to greengoblin who shared the tracks in 2006.

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (224 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.
