Matt is easily the best songwriter in Pearl Jam. The proof is in the fact that most of their dumb "bro" fans can't understand his songs at all and won't even tolerate listening to them.
I love this post so hard

The songs on Brotherhood demolish everything else.
na, see now I know you got it wrong, because it's the songs on S/T that demolish everything else, whereas Brotherhood is more effective as an album in it's entirety.

I was hoping I could get deeper into their discography (or at least fully absorb their debut) before this thread was bumped, Ruddo.
This thread is in its' infancy and waiting to sprout up with the help of your contributions. There is no rush to such growth.
I will say, I was taken by surprise with the debut. I don't know what I imagined this group sounding like, but it wasn't this. These guys sold that raw 60's garage energy just about as well as you could at the turn of the century. Also, hearing "Sandy" was like a shot to the arm. I totally forgot that song existed. It was featured on Monkeywrench Radio, right? Total ear candy. Don't even get me started on the song structures. Good stuff, here.

The first album isn't very good. It's basically a tossed-off novelty. The other three albums have some fantastic songs, but they are padded out with instrumental experiments and other bullshit. If you isolate all of the best songs, it fills up a CDR, and it's a CDR that will never leave your CD player.
