That might be an overestimation; sad!

Love Damien. Been listening to the covers album he did with Richard Swift lately.

There was a new single out today that I thought sounded nice.

The Horizon Just Laughed is great. He's one of the more consistent artists going.

I do wish we'd get another rock record like I Break Chairs again.

cool interview with popmatters

https://www.popmatters.com/damien-jurado-2018-interview-2566110019.html

There are moments like when he's talking about not being down with Father John Misty's cynicism where I'm like, what a cool, reasonable dude, and then other times when he's talking about recalling past lives and "dimensional living" where I think he might be a lizard person.

I have no idea what it's about but the "The Last Great Washington State" makes me weepy.

I listened to the new one the other day but I was only half paying attention while I was writing--I did like it, though. I haven't bought the LP yet but once I do I'm going to do a lights-out-so-no-one-can-see-me-crying listen.

I'm surprised it was on there. I read somewhere he's keeping it off streaming services until July. I bought it from Bandcamp.

RIP Richard Swift

https://pitchfork.com/news/richard-swift-dead-at-41/

https://pitchfork.com/news/richard-swif ... rugs-more/

https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/why-rich ... -treasure/

My Richard Swift story:

Quote:
Just mentally closed a very bizarre loop...

Back in the late 90s when I worked in the music department of a Christian bookstore (I know), I distinctly remember getting a huge-for-us (so probably like 5) shipment of CDs by a guy named Dicky Ochoa. I didn't listen to it, but the cover made him look like a Ricky Martin, Robby Williams dance pop knock-off. I think it might have been "praise and worship" music. They didn't sell so we ended up sending them back.

15+ years later I'm listening to Maraqopa by Damien Jurado. I love the way it sounds, so I google the producer, a guy named Richard Swift. Turns out it's the same fucking guy! And in addition to being an in-demand producer he plays in The Shins and The Arcs, and was the touring bassist for the Black Keys.

There's a gotta be a (small) landfill somewhere full of those Dicky Ochoa CDs.
