Boy, do I love San Antonio. Wish I was there.

Reid, I can erase things in pics on my iPhone 12 as well.

I heard a Bill Callahan song the other day that blew me away, but I don't know much about him. May have to take a deep dive soon.

rudd — start with the smog (it’s bill) record, KNOCK KNOCK and the live record, under his christian name, ROUGH TRAVEL FOR A RARE THING. then return here and share your impressions, observations & innermost feelings

both excellent choices.

Rough Travel was the first time I heard Our Anniversary. i love that one.

Knock Knock is a tough point of entry, IMO. Though if Ruddo likes Bonnie Prince Billy it may click for him?

what would you go with?

i like: A River Ain't Too Much to Love, Apocalypse, and Shepherd as starters.

River, Apocalypse, or maybe Dongs of Sevotion is you want to check out more of his edgier electric stuff.

No way would I start with Shepherd, that's a very lofty (lovely) album with songs bleeding into each other. Nothing to latch on to easily, it requires repeated listens to click.

Apocalypse is the one that got me into him

what’s tough about knock?

Mostly just that River Guard > No Dancing is kind of a challenging ten minute stretch that comes early on in the album

I only know Callahan's recent(-ish) discography but my first one was Dream River and I loved it immediately. Of the ones I know (which is everything back to Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle), the only one that took some getting used to was Shepherd In a Sheepskin Vest, but it's not like it's this dense, impossible thing -- I'm talking 3-4 listens to get get oriented in it instead of 1-2.

Depending on how sappy I want to get, I may quote a song from Shepherd in my speech at my brother's wedding. We'll see!
