Deal! It's a great record, J -- but it's probably the most lyrically dense record I've heard from him, so it will definitely take a while to really process. I do want to get "Scary Monsters" but after that I will probably put the brakes on for a bit to really get familiar with what I have. I've managed to get quite a bit of Bowie all in the span of a month or so.

I love how they are pushing this "unreleased album" hard, when all of the songs/mixes were previously released as bonus tracks and b-sides 25 years ago, and are simply collected here in the "original order". Talk about a whole bunch of nothing.

Amen. I'm looking forward to the someday official release of Toy, and I would sell a kidney to hear the demos he recorded before he died.

Not really feeling the three new tracks that came out ahead of the Lazarus release. The mood is good, similar to Black Star and Outside, but they've got the sort of epic bombast typical of Broadway recordings. Oh well.

Listening to "The Man Who Sold the World" -- I picked this up earlier this week and have struggled to really get into it but right now I'm listening to it really fucking loud on my headphones and it's rocking my socks off. "The Width of a Circle" feels like Sabbath and Zeppelin and the Who all rolled into a glorious package of glam-noise, all thumping bass and perfectly recorded distortion -- makes me want to go back and rediscover all classic rock again for the first time.

Revisiting "Let's Dance" and I'm blown away by this record. Ricochet is a fucking powerhouse. What a brilliant song. It's been way too long since I went back to this record.

I was reading some posts on a NIN board about the Bowie tour and they mentioned that Bowie had a 'companion' piece to Outside that was kind of the OG ideas for the album plus some ideas of what part 2 was going to be about. It's called "The Leon Suites (1.Outside Outtakes)" and is basically three sonic pastiches, each 20+ minutes long. Interesting stuff to listen to, but kind of a lot for something to listen to on the reg.
Probably going to go into his catalog titles this year because I know the big albums but when I look at his Wikipedia I see a lot that I have never heard of.

Yeah I’ve heard the Outside outtakes. It’s mostly jams that morphed into the album tracks, plus a handful of original songs. Good stuff but not essential unless you’re a diehard.

i have a friend who's a huge Bowie fan, and i always pronounce his name "David BOW-ie" (like taking a bow) just to get a rise out of him, and it works EVERY TIME.
