Eddie Vedder listed as one of the guests on the poster for the virtual Tom Petty's 70th Birthday Bash. Takes place the 23rd. Some other interesting names on the list as well. https://www.tompettybirthdaybash.com/

I grabbed the 2CD version of the Wildflowers reissue this week and have really been enjoying revisiting the album, as well as the checking out the outtakes. I'm in the camp that has always found Wildflowers a little overrated but it really is a beautiful album, with only a couple of spots where I feel like it drags a little bit. There are a few songs on the outtakes disc -- "Leave Virginia Alone" and "Harry Green" especially -- that I like better than some of the lesser songs on the album itself. "Leave Virginia Alone" is unnecessary but continued proof that no one can ruin a great song like Rod Stewart.

And man, that last minute of "It's Good to Be King" is just one of the most beautiful, serene passages of music ever. So good.

Yes. I kind of translate that into the slow descent back into reality for Petty - like he jumped into this imaginary escape hatch on It’s Good to Be King, occupied the space with some good humor and escape from his world, and then that outtro serves as the descent back into reality that is at once majestic but also melancholic. This was such a great composition for him - and the way it translates in the live recording on the last disc is just incredible.

In the midst of the home recordings. What I love about this is there’s no need to sort compare the recordings. It exists totally separately. And some of these are real gems. Confusion Wheel sounds great here. Don’t Fade On Me has a different feel. Leave Virginia Alone is again really excellent. California has a different feel, more organic and fitting here. It’s a worthy addition and not filler at all.

I've always loved California...it sounds even better here.

That really was a fantastic event.

Lucinda Williams cover of running down a dream was amazing. Chris Stapleton doing dont fade on me also hit my sweet spot.

Was very touching and also sad watching mike Campbell and benmont play.

Unboxed the 5 cd set today and listened to all 70 songs. Wildflowers has been a top 10 album for me for a long time and this has only made me love it more.

I first got into his music in the early 90s with Greatest Hits/Wildflowers/Playback. Playback was the first box set I ever owned by an artist and the track by track commentary and analysis in the liner notes was a unique experience. The great care on the accompanying material with the Wildflowers boxset brought me back to those earlier times. Reading Rick Rubin and the guys comment on basically every song and the multiple versions offered here is so appreciated. Felt like Christmas morning. What a gift this is.
