many people argue that rock n roll is dying or dead. Of course there will always be bands that we find and love and attach onto for a few years. We are music nerds and spend most of our days doing such a thing. But as far as rock n roll influencing modern culture? yea, thats probably dead. I some times argue that pearl jam was the last big rock band that did so. Since then its just been waves of popularity that have died out. My Morning Jacket doesnt have that kind of influence and the rest are small bands that we love but...clearly different. What im getting at is Tom Petty. Bruce Springsteen, etc..etc... Fucking Rock legends. National treasures. So when a guy like Tom Petty passes on...its one less concrete footing of Rock n Roll. The records will always be there but no mew music, no touring, no media cool.
Fuck life.
A majority of people feel sadness for that loss. No matter what level of music fan you may or may not be. Who in this generation will have that kind of impact? Beyonce? Bieber? Will the world collectively pause and weep for a moment?
