Update: I listened to Cashout and was not disappointed. The Argument was one hell of a way to leave us.

Cashout is their best song IMO. That or 'Waiting Room'.

it's an amazing song, but the cellos on the chorus kind of make my skin crawl in a nails-on-chalkboard kind of way. That's a good thing.

Nowhere near ranking songs, but Nightshop and Place/Position would make my list. I can tell you that right now. Also really like Full Disclosure.

Listening to Life and Limb while thinking about VG's comment earlier in this thread about them being a "more focused more aggressive Sonic Youth" and it's spot on. I liked 13 Songs enough, but never got into them beyond that. The direction they go beyond that debut is much different than what I expected. The guitar interplay is key. The atmosphere is dynamic. All this time I thought angry vocals, fast tempos, and a heap of integrity were all this band was about.

Brendan Canty is the sleeper engine of this beast. He does shit that is so counterintuitive but works so perfectly to tie everything together.

Listening to The Argument.

Interesting album. Its the one i come back the least, maybe its because their last one? Ive been listening a lot to different Joe Lally projects, and i guess this one features a lot of the stuff i really like about his playing but its still behind my fav from them, End Hits.

i was an end hits maxi until a couple months ago when i think i finally found my stride with The Argument

End Hits is slower, actually, sleepier, more psychedelic

The Argument is deliberate, hard, with purpose, crisp, tight, mature, well-recorded (although I think End Hits is as well)

right now The Argument is in my #1 spot

never thought I would say it

but it is

I have a date with the Smithsonian to rescue a copy of the Folk Life festival show sometime

there they debuted Ex-Spectator, but instrumental only. has not been released on the live album series yet, last i checked, but was recorded. it is still seared into my memory. album had not come out yet. when the buildup exploded we were in a circus tent on the national mall with a tempest outside

i can feel it

down in my plums
