I don't think they have an album that I like front to back. The closest would be Mother's Milk or Blood Sugar Sex Magic I guess. Those are kinda fun if I'm in the right mood. They usually have a couple good songs per album. At least in the '89-'99 period. It would have made a better Jane's song but I always loved the song Warped on the Navaro album. Show Me Your Soul has my favorite Frusciante solo. That's about it.

I have fond memories of their mellow stuff, like "Breaking The Girl" and "My Friends". Their "funky" stuff, not so much.

I've never been able to connect with this band beyond a couple of songs.

One Hot Minute is hands down their best album

BSSM is their masterpiece but I have a soft spot for Californication. OHM has a few tasty treats but a lot of meh.

I love everything from BSSM -- By The Way. The earlier stuff has its moments, and I appreciate the raw energy of it; plus Hillel was a great guitarist.
Stadium Arcadium and I'm With You are both complete garbage -- I can't think of another band that took such a hard dive in such a short span of time.

Kiedis is a dink, always has been. But his style fits the music perfectly, and I can separate his singing from his persona.

Californication holds a special place for me, because I was learning how to play guitar when it came out, and I learned every single song on that album. It's really inventive playing, and my hat's off to Frusciante for creating such compelling-yet-simple guitar lines.

These days, if i reach for an album at all, it's probably By The Way. I love the sound of it, even though it's squashed to shit. The drums and bass sound fantastic, the guitars are lush, and the harmonies are taken right out of the Beach Boys play book.

I did see them and Foo Fighters once on a double bill, and it was one of the most disappointing shows I've ever seen. RHCP sounded AWFUL, and FF didn't sound even a little bit different from their records.

pretty much everything. Im a really big fan of the mofo uplift era..cool moments with Jackie Irons and Hillel.

And the Navarro era is also a strange but good moment of the band.

I'm down with this, though I think all those records still have major down spots ("By the Way" is probably the strongest overall). The sex-funk side of their business just isn't something I ever got into, and anything not from this era doesn't interest me at all (I attempted to listen to "What Hits?" one time and couldn't get through it). A well-made mix from these four albums (and including "Soul to Squeeze") would be exquisite.

Gong Li is another outtake that ranks above their best work.

BSSM and Californication always come to mind when probed about some of my all-time favorite albums.

I can never figure out what he is saying in that song about looking through blinds or shades or something. It is irritating.
