Would anyone have a good recommendation for a guitar player who's looking for an affordable bass for home recording? It seems unlikely that I'd be the bass player at a show anytime soon, but I've been faking bass on demos for some time now and it'd be nice to try the real thing. I was looking at a Squire 70s Precision knockoff, but am pretty open to anything. Thanks!

All the Fender Squire stuff is perfectly acceptable.

I had a Squire Affinity P bass that i used for exactly this purpose and it was totally fine. It wasn't the best sounding instrument but it played well and stayed in tune. I got rid of it for a 5 string cause that suits my needs better.

I had an Ibanez soundgear that sounded pretty great, active pickups so it was pretty versatile. Looks like they’re running at about the same price as squires.

I think this is the direction I'm going in, thanks.

I really hate the look of an acoustic guitar with a Stratocaster headstock

The average lifespan of a GCB95 is 18 years. I need to go get my third one. I'm old.

haha it's true. I used to stand on mine and beat the everloving hell out them and they always took the abuse. I went through 2 in about 20 years which seems about right for what i put them through. I've got a Dimebag one now but i don't really use a wah much live these days so it doesn't get a ton of use.

Okay, I think I'm ready to lessen everyone's burden. There's nothing better than pushing air with a good amp and cab, but I think I play a lot less because of how intrusive that can be.

Tell me this isn't the one I should get: https://www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-se ... do-captor/

I have that and it's awesome. Is your goal to lessen your amp's output volume in the room or to play/record silently through your workstation?

Both really. Reducing volume in the room is probably more important though. I can still mic the amp with less volume, without issue.

Ah ok, well the reason I ask is that the torpedo may not be the best bang for your buck as far as attenuators go if that's your primary goal. It's really just a -20db pad. Personally i love it for silent home recording and don't really bother with attenuation but it's nice to know that option is there if I need it sometime.

Mrs. Bam got me a Spark 40 amp for Xmas and it’s pretty cool - may actually inspire me to try learning again. I gave it about a year and feel like I plateaued. This is a fun little toy.

I started taking in-person drum lessons back in Sept mostly so I could write music better and not have to rely on preprogrammed MIDI patterns but i'm really starting to enjoy it. So much so that I barely pick up a guitar these days except at band practice. I started playing on a cheap little Alesis Nitro electronic kit I bought years ago in an earlier (failed) attempt to learn drums. I recently upgraded from the Nitro to an Alesis Surge kit with mesh heads. It's still very much a beginner kit in the price-point sense but it's a night and day difference from the one I was playing. The jump from rubber to mesh heads is huge.

Rhythm section is just more fun in general. Next you'll have a bass awakening. 8-)

I do enjoy bass but I haven’t really been able to play it in band, just in my own songs and demos. I do my best to not play bass like a guitar player though :o
