Kind of shocked there isn't a thread for this yet. Anyone listened? Thoughts?

I'm listening to this now and my first impression is Wow, this sounds really fucking good. The production is crazy.

It's on the to-do list. Dre has produced more than a few hot tracks in his day but overall I find both of his own full-lengths really inconsistent and unsatisfying.

Some thoughts as it's going:

"Loose Cannons" - Ah, I see Dre hasn't eased up on the misogyny at all. :shake:

"Issues" - Um, why did he rip off Mos Def's "Supermagic"? Is there a reason for this or is it just plagiarism?

It's "good". I was never a huge Dre fan, but I think it does a nice job of blending his sound with some of the more complicated song structures of Kendrick and others. I think it starts off well, then kinda fades. Genocide is a killer track. I wish he would have just left Snoop off the album entirely.

This album came out of the gate hard with the first five tracks and then lost steam pretty quickly.

I listened to most of this yesterday, and at the end, all I thought was, he should've used Talking To My Diary as the template for the entire album.

I really enjoyed it. I consider The Chronic one of my top 10 albums of all time, its not nearly as good as that or 2001 for that matter, but it was a solid record for me. Talking to My Diary a real favorite for me. Digging the trumpet outro.

Really dig "Medicine Man". Eminem's verse is nuts.

I keep forgetting about this album. My instinct tells me this can't be particularly good. I'm basically just hoping for some bumping Dre beats and good guest verses from K Lamar, Eminem, and others.

"Talk About It" and "Genocide" are fuckin' bangin'. Definitely the album highlights for me.

Yeah, "Talk About It" is real good too. I like Talking to My Diary mainly because of the beat, but also like the last verse with the lyrics about Eazy and the days with NWA. Plus, I like the trumpet in the outro over that beat. Think that's different and cool. I dont know, I just dig the song.

I think this album is decent, its not The Chronic or even 2001, but there's plenty to like: Talk about It, Genocide, All in a Day's Work, One Shot One Kill, Talking to My Diary are favorites, Eminem goes ape shit on I think Medicine Man, which was pretty cool too.

I didn't even listen to his last one, was it any good? If Kendrick is on this one I'll probably fuck with it just to hear his stuff.

His last one, meaning "2001?"

It has a few good tracks and a lot of filler.

Was "Detox" not a thing or was that just an Eminem album?

I looked it up, I thought he had dropped something a year or two ago for some reason. Weird.

I think there were a few singles that were supposed to be on it, but he eventually scrapped the project totally.
