I never liked Good Charlotte, but I was way way way into The Offspring between those same ages. They were the first rock band I called "my favorite."
I really liked the Offspring for a while too -- from 1995 to 1999 or so I would have considered them one of my absolute favorite bands. "Ignition" and "Smash" still feel like pretty solid albums to me, though I'm rarely compelled to play them (I think "Smash" is the only one I still own, actually). With "Ixnay on the Hombre" (which I really liked at the time) and "Americana" (which I sort of liked at the time), they felt progressively more like a novelty band, which reached a low for me with"Conspiracy of One"; it was the first album I bought and thought, "Ugh, what is this shit, and why am I listening to it?" They're one of the few bands whose poor taste really does feel as though it's retroactively poisoned some of their more virtuous work.
I always hated Good Charlotte and as a 19 year-old really felt like Eddie Vedder delivered them a long overdue comeuppance on the "Live at the Garden" DVD.

Tonight my wife made an offhand statement about "it's like being at a Staind concert," and she was able to gauge my reaction and realize that I had, at one point, been to a Staind concert. She is contacting a divorce lawyer as we speak.

I used to play their first album at least once a day (or so it seemed). And they def crushed live. However, that was kind of it. Break the Cycle def had a few good cuts, but I fell off after that.

Our friend who was into emo/screamo stuff back in the day got the nickname Charlotte because of that terrible band. So awful.

Agreed. Can't think of any songs I liked after Dysfunction and BtC.
