Direct master from the original tapes, and pressed at 45 RPM. Instant pre-order for me, despite the price tag.

There was a time when I resisted STP because I thought they were grunge band wagoners. Part of me still thinks that, but it’s hard to deny they have some great tunes, and some solid albums.

Used to work at a place that had a framed vintage concert poster from their pre-label San Diego(?) days. I think they were about as legit as Pearl Jam, in that they were chasing major label dollars by taking the college radio sound and marrying it with a really compelling frontman.

I think STP’s catalog holds up incredibly well.

Yeah I actually don’t own any STP vinyl yet, so it works out well for me. But you could always sell your old one to your local shop for credit?

Thanks for recommending this. What an incredibly musically knowledgeable and humble guy. Loved hearing him talk about Henry Mancini and Antonio Carlos Jobim - that really plays out in STP’s music in so many ways.

Absolutely love this band.

Thanks. It’s popped up for me a few times. I’ll give it a listen.

Started it last night. I don’t know what it is about Beato, but I just don’t think I like him. Is he pompous? It’s like he constantly tries to impress people with knowing all these fucked up oddball jazz chords. I just don’t dig the guy’s vibe. But at the same time, I DO dig a lot of the people he interviews and find something new about almost all of them when watching his interviews. It’s a very strange dynamic.

I don't find him pompous for knowing music theory and interviewing musicians through that lens; I wish more interviewers were like him in that regard. I always come away from his interviews feeling excited about the music of whoever it is he's interviewing. He says some eye-roll stuff sometimes but his theory knowledge is a strength, IMO, not a weakness.

i can see why people would find that approach off-putting and kinda snobby. you can discuss song craft w/o trying to impress people with your musical knowledge. as someone who's completely self-taught and can play by ear at this point, i really enjoy hearing people talk about music theory. i usually end up reading a bunch of stuff afterwards about things they talked about i'm not familiar with.

even if you don't like the interviewer, deleo is awesome to listen to. there's another clip of them talking about 'interstate love song'.

which brings me to my next point, stp is fucking awesome.

yeah, STP was the best with Scott. Saw them 3 times and every time it was better.
I still hope these guys can make new music and kinda get lost on that. They are a very tight band.

Vinyl roulette had me listening to Core while throwing around kettlebells today. It was a good pick!
