I thought they played Alpine Valley every tour. What gives?

It tends to be either Northerly Island or Alpine.

That stinks. Northerly Island is such a horrible venue.

yeah, since northerly island is a thing now (and a live nation venue also) they've mostly been alternating years for that and alpine, with milwaukee getting a summerfest show in those non-alpine years.

madman's eyes isn't bad but it's also not that good, but it was the better of the new songs i heard last year. i still do not like the chorus at all. the studio version here sounds pretty good and if the rest of the album maintains this then i can see that aspect elevating the album listening experience even if the songs aren't that strong. yet, if those songs times are accurate, half the album at ~3 minutes or less doesn't inspire a lot of excitement for interesting or deep band work.

I heard a teaser on the radio this morning that a long running band was breaking up, but I got parked and out of the car before the commercial break was over, and I saw this thread bumped the same day. It was nearly RIP DMB day.

looks like i'll be making a trip out to the gorge this year, for the first time. my friend moved to western montana a couple years ago and we've talked about going out there one of these tours, and seems it's going to be doable for both of us this time, so i put in for tickets and camping. excited to finally get out there and get the gorge experience.

anyone that's done it want to share any advice/tips?

Get a good camping spot unless you like being up all night with your neighbors blasting techno.

i do bonnaroo camping every year- good earplugs are a must for that reason. i also put in a request for the higher $$ camping levels, but those aren't guaranteed.

Folsom Field is the best live album of DMB that I've listened to. Heavy on Everyday which is not one of their best, but it's still gold.

After that journey, I would say Central Park. Sure it’s a hits show, but they were playing their asses off.

Listening to the Gorge 2002 release over the weekend, even with Dave fairly prominent in the mix at least the songs themselves had space to breathe.

Agreed. I am not a big fan of DMB, but this one stays in regular rotation.

despite the everyday content- especially the super long angel - folsom field, red rocks 95, and live in chicago from a winter 1998 show are my go tos for released shows. the big eyed fish>bartender>what you are run on folsom would be put on repeat a lot back in the day. lots of folks pick central park from 2003 but that one just never clicked with me as the others have. i don't recall any live releases since that have made an impression, maybe piedmont park and that is more likely because dreaming tree is on it. i have the gorge 2002 and red rocks 2005 sets and certainly the gorge is the better of the two.

I enjoyed a lot of the playing on the 2005 tour. The repeats did not help the Red Rocks release, though that was also par for the course in '05... four days straight for Louisiana Bayou is pretty damn ridiculous. That said there are some fine performances in the full set but Dave's voice never really recovered from Halloween IIRC.

I may have short changed Everyday. I think it has aged well. Over the last 10 years or so I've always been pleased when an everyday song has been played at a show. The albums through BTCS are on a higher level but everyday is in the same stratosphere as the rest (maybe better).

Out of the ones I've heard, I put Chicago 98 and Piedmont as the next best live ones.

"Monsters" is out!

the atmosphere of the songs stood out more than anything. it's kinda trippy and kinda funky. i think whatever tim is doing w/ the echo sounds awesome. the groove kinda reminds me of 'lying in the hands of god'. the start of it made me think there may be a segue from the track before it.

i have to listen to that again. first listen i thought it was really good.
