Spoiler: show
The Early Years 1965 - 1972 is a comprehensive 27-disc box set that sees Pink Floyd delve into their vast music archive to produce a deluxe package that includes 7 individual book-style volumes, featuring much previously unreleased material. The Early Years box set contains unreleased tracks, BBC Radio Sessions, remixes, outtakes and alternative versions over an incredible 11 hours, 45 mins of audio (made up of 130+ tracks) and live and TV performance in over 14 hours of audio-visual material. The content includes over 20 unreleased songs, more than 7 hours of previously unreleased live audio and over 5 hours of rare concert footage, along with 5 meticulously produced 7" singles in replica sleeves, collectable memorabilia, feature films and new sound mixes. Previously unreleased tracks include 1967's Vegetable Man and In The Beechwoods, which have been mixed for the first time, specially for this release. The Early Years 1965-1972 will give collectors the opportunity to hear the evolution of the band and witness their part in cultural revolutions from their earliest recordings and studio sessions to the years prior to the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon, one of the biggest selling albums of all time. From the single Arnold Layne to the 20-minute epic Echoes, fans will see the invention of psychedelic progressive rock via an insightful collection that explores the Pink Floyd story from the time Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Nick Mason and Syd Barrett met at London s Regent Street Polytechnic, through to Syd's departure and David Gilmour joining to form the iconic lineup.

looking further, individual 'volumes', of which there are 7, will be released next year. the last disc set and all the ephemera will be exclusive to the box. so it looks like the material will be available somewhat cheaper eventually.

Bull Moose has a preorder of it for $511, so maybe it will come down yet. http://www.bullmoose.com/p/23306392/pin ... 4-disc-set

I'm pretty excited about this, though there's no way I'm spending $700 on the whole thing.

Pretty much. They have a lot of nerve charging that much when they have excluded so many things and used shit sources for some things when it was totally unnecessary. They can blow me until next Tuesday.

I'll probably pick up the individual sets over time, or buy FLACs if they make them available at a decent price.

Fine. Be a turd. But the fact that Bob Dylan/Columbia is charging less than $150 for a 36-disc set says all you need to know about the "value" you are getting here. The idea that anyone would pay $700 for this is hilarious.

i've picked up all of the early record reissues save meddle, and am actually pleasantly surprised. i don't have a great setup (not terrible, though), and everything has sounded pretty good to me. also, it's nice to listen to the older albums without the noise/scratches all of my old copies had on them.

there's a massive thread on the hoffman forums if you want to wade through that. seems more positive feedback than not.

There is no such thing as a bad sounding Floyd vinyl or CD. It's arguing minutiae. When those Steve Hoffman bastards argue about the best pressing of DSOTM, I want to pull my hair out. And then they think it's fine if something is mastered all crappy as long as it's a shitty recording. They are completely ass backwards.
