Kevin Davis wrote:I was going to order some of those live archive shows with holiday gift money, but after shipping they were so expensive I just decided to limit myself to one (I got the 2005 one; I have the 1980 one already). But then I realized I never picked up the "Hammersmith Odeon, London '75" album from a few years ago, so I ordered a used copy for about $4. Listening right now -- what a great sounding show. Even early on he was radically reimagining songs (the slow version of "E Street Shuffle" is really cool, and of course the solo piano "Thunder Road"). An artist with the world at his fingertips -- a thing to behold.

Have you seen the DVD of this show? It came with the Born to Run box set. Dude is like 25 years old and fucking undeniable.

Magic is so, so good. It is almost my number one Bruce album only popped by Darkness.

And Bo'B did such a good job on Girls in their Summe Clothes. The mastering squeezes it all too much though. I'd love to hear the unmastered final mix.

His best since Tunnel of Love for sure.

"You'll Be Comin' Down" is another standout. Clarence's sax sounds fucking great on that.

I would put Magic right up there with his best. Not as many standout tracks but no clunkers, plus they have a nice flow. Definitely his best album since Tunnel of Love, if not Born in the USA.

In terms of consistency and what I want to hear, it's up there with Darkness. Yeah it'd be #2.

I really love a good chunk of The Rising, but I find that I never listen to it because it is so long (72 minutes!!!). So I cut it down and retracked it, and I'm loving this version. I think it flows really nicely.

1. Paradise
2. Countin' on a Miracle
3. The Fuse
4. Further On (Up the Road)
5. Waitin' on a Sunny Day
6. The Rising
7. Lonesome Day
8. My City of Ruins
9. Worlds Apart

Add You're Missing and I am on board with this.

Yeah he really went overboard on The Rising. But the highs are super high.

You also need Into The Fire in there. That song is special.

Oh god I hate that song. That song was the whole impetus for doing this.

It's too long but it's good.

I've grown to dislike Into The Fire. Was a good sentiment for the times but 15 years later I give it a no thanks.

Totally agree with this. Without a doubt Magic is the standout among his second go around with the E Street Band.

Long Walk Home is probably in my top 10 Springsteen songs. Gypsy Biker's right up there too.

Please keep that in mind and vote in the tournament very soon.

Long Walk Home is destroying me today.

It's great. The setup throughout the album works so well. Magic into Last To Die into Long Walk Home to the end. Long Walk Home benefits so much from Last To Die ratcheting up the tension and unease.

On the Magic tour these 2 were usually played back to back.
