Thanks Folks. I'll start out with Bubblegum and then in this order:

Field Songs
Blues Funeral
Whiskey for the Holy Ghost

He was probably close with Cornell. Cornell produced Uncle Anesthesia. On the other hand, that album sounds terrible despite a lot of good songs, so who knows...

I remember reading an article (I'll see if I can find it) where one of the Connor brothers indicated that all of them (Cornell included) were pretty much stoned through the entirety of recording Uncle Anethesia. Agree there are some strong songs, I love the record personally, but the production is terrible. Not a reflection on anyone in particular, the songs just had no sonic punch whatsoever. Caught Between, Ocean Of Confusion, Bed Of Roses, Time For Light, Alice Said, Disappearing, Lay Your Head Down, etc etc all great stuff though.

Also agree with all, if you want to get into his solo work, Field Songs is probably the best place to start. If you're more into something catchier and rock-oriented, I'd start w/ Dust from Screaming Trees.

Just listen to these songs and start with the album of the one you like best. All 5 of these are pretty great top to bottom. Bubblegum and Blues Funeral probably vary the widest from song to song though (strong mixtures of hard and slower songs)

Beehive was my daughter's most requested song for a while. Nothing like your three year old running around singing "honey just gets me stoned". I still think this album falls apart in the second half, though

Emperor is one of the ML songs I like the least. Certainly a bottom 10 for me (not counting the Mark + someone records)

To my great surprise that remix version of Death Trip to Tulsa has actually elevated that song into one of my top tier Lanegan tracks

I want to organize a mega tournament for him, but I don't know that there would be enough participation to be worth it. Maybe a draft.

Lanegan has such a long cool career it would be so difficult to play it....and yeah, the remix album is pretty cool.

Field Songs, Whisky for the Holy Ghost, or Bubblegum for solo.

But if you want a great grunge record you can't go wrong with Sweet Oblivion (Screaming Trees)

I still rank Whiskey for the Holy Ghost as best of the early stuff and Bubblegum for the later era stuff. I never spent much time with Field Songs though. I still listen to Winding Sheet regularly. It's got a rainy Sunday morning hangover with the lingering smell of ashtray from the night before vibe I dig.
