sure he was super fucked but i kinda changed that view when Mike Inez said that they werent healthy at the time. Jerry was fucked too. Layne was just..impossible. He was at the early stages of what happened to him next i guess.

Was this on a pod or something? I'd love to hear more about what was going on with the band during that time.

i read it on two great books, Grunge is dead by Greg? Prato and Everybody loves our town by Mark Yarm. Both of them have a lot on Alice and specially on those years.
They were in such a bad place on those years, 1995-1996. They remember those sessions as super cool and amicable but super dark and weird. Lots of sessions with Layne coming super late, Jerry being frustrated with how they were operating. The unplugged show and the kiss shows were great for them, and they just thought about resting for sometime. Thats why Jerry did Boggy Depot mainly.

Yeah Layne definitely is a big part of the album but they couldn't even really tour because of him at that point.

Did they ever truly do a big tour as a headliner with Layne?

Right ... they opened big shows but was there ever a monster AIC tour? I don’t think there ever was.

no, they didnt played live as much as PJ or Soundgarden did back in the day. I think their biggest shows were rock in rio and Lolla 93 were they headlined.

I thought the same thing about Acid Bubble in 09. That song ripped my head off.

yeah, mine too. Jerry Cantrell was super awesome and serious. Inez didnt stop for a second. Kinney was awesome. i was blown away with Sean really.
And William is indeed great. He is super talented, his guitar playing is sick

William didn't play guitar very much in 09. I remember him with an acoustic for Nutshell and that was maybe it. My Indian friend was transfixed by him as we were right on the rail and he really commanded the stage. Nobody gave him Layne shit even then when it was still early on, although some skin head looking types were giving him what looked like a Nazi salute at different points. Also saw someone get knocked out cold with a punch after the last song. It was really a pretty wild environment. The Rave is in a pretty gross part of Milwaukee. Dahmer used to have an apartment close by.

The crowd loved him. And yes, he played a lot on this show. Great player. And fuck he commands the stage for sure. His place.

I had a chance to see Jerry solo in Knoxville back in ‘01, ‘02? At the time, I worked overnights and my boss wouldn’t let me trade to be off. The next morning when he came in he asked me why I was there, he thought I was going to be off...

Was that the tour Williams band was with him on?

Jerry also opened for Nickelback around that time didn't he?

No. It was right after Degradation Trip was released. He was at a club.

Yeah I think Comes With the Fall did the club shows with him. I could have seen him at the Double Door that tour but didn't. I might have been too young to get in the door at the time anyway.

kudos to Jerry for bringing him to AIC and trust in that music relationship.
