Guys, Jar of Flies is an amazing album. Before this grunge tournament started I hadn't listened to it since I was in my early 20s. I clearly remembered Stay Away and No Excuses because I'd listened to them dozens of times over the years, but the rest of the album feels brand new. I could do without the last track, but those first six are damn near perfect, and they sound amazing. It's just a phenomenal recording. It's definitely one of the best of the era.
Jar of flies is a masterpiece. Not only at the time, because of what the band was doing back then, but now. Its sounds awesome and captures a lot of what AIC is in another music setting.

Absolutely. Such an amazing album to listen to, and it gets better every year.

I was listening to a Jar/Sap playlist (because those are their best albums) and Brother came on. Totally forgot about Cornell being on it, it was a weird moment.

I'm listening to it again right now. I'm addicted. But the song I'm most stuck on is Don't Follow. Specifically the Jerry vocal section (Layne's part is great too). It is both musically and vocally beautiful... the combination is stunningly beautiful.
Rotten Apple and Nutshell are GREAT too. And obviously, I Stay Away and No Excuses are classics. Whale & Wasp is fucking great too. Damn...
This album reminds me of a certain great Pink Floyd record. Short in term of songs, musically diverse within their own sound, beautifully recorded, and though dated in some ways, still timeless. It really is a masterpiece and a true standout within the band's catalog and the era.

It's not necessarily that the music sounds Floydian (although there are definitely elements there that do), but the overall esthetic of the album feels very similar to listening to something like Wish You Were Here. It's somewhat experimental, and unique within the band's catalog, yet it is their signature sound. Jar of Flies is a pretty special album.
