after one listen while answering emails...
there are definitely some hits and misses, but overall, i don't think this really deserves the huge amounts of disgust that the blogosphere is throwing its way. it by no means sounds much like anything he's ever released (aside from a couple of songs that continue his nashville-country-rock sound), which i respect and kinda dig. this is very different than Lazaretto, which i disliked. there are some really, really interesting things going on here. some of the lyrics are completely inane, and that almost-rap song is kinda cringeworthy. but damn, some of the instrumentals are pretty great.
i don't know how often i'll listen to this as a whole album, but some of the songs will probably stick. i'm glad i checked it out and didn't just write it off bc of negative reviews.
Ill probably listen to this again. its just so wild. Its not so much that its bad, or even that its any good, but its just a massive "wtf was that shit". I kind of respect that. Its an interesting listen.

I don't think it's this crazy, experimental thing. It's just a bunch of bad songs.

All the loops? instrumentations? changes? Instrumental breakdowns and diarrheas ? over dubs? weird fucking choir additions? rapping?
yea, its awful. But there is a lot going on that you gotta respect in a sense. No?
