If Auerbach is copying White, he needs to steal his volume. Jack White is amazingly loud, The Keys sound so quiet live.
Never saw 'em live, only on video, but they sound a lot better on small venues....
I've heard this as well. I saw them in a big festival earlier this year and was bored senseless.
I saw them at a small venue and could still talk over them pretty easily. It was bizarre. Maybe it was just the venue, but they didn't have much stage presence anyway. They sounded a little bigger and better at ACL last year, but didnt pull off the headliner role nearly as well as Jack White the next night.

Does anyone else here use earplugs at shows? I always do if I'm anywhere near the stage.
I've never tried it because at most shows i kinda wish it was louder, but not for jack white, i definitely coulda used ear plugs.
Do you still hear everything clearly just quieter?
Doc, look for earplugs online, there are lots of different kinds, and ones made specifically for listening to music. They make some to block certain frequencies and certain types of noise.
I went to a Muse show in a tiny club and was basically deaf for three days afterward. It scared the shit out of me. After that I bought some decent earplugs and take them with me to every show. You know when your ears are hurting, that's the time to use them.

i will have to check them out, jack white is the only one that has actually been painful because of the volume and the sounds he produces, but it might be good to have some just in case i feel like i need them

Stripes are the only band that ive felt that way too... well 1 Sleater Kinney show was pretty brutal, but front row 10 feet from Janet Weiss's drum is a whole different conversation then Jacks LOUDness...

They're both just ripping off old blues guitarists, it's cool.
And now they're both apparently abusing their ex-wives! But Jack did it first, just remember that.

Guys, I really hate Jack White.
why?
I think he's a phony, pretentious windbag who makes unremarkable music of little substance tarted up with superficial gimmickry and hollow mystique.
He's a charlatan.
You've just described almost every major rock star since 1964.
