The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I don't care about rockers it's just that seemingly every song is the same tempo, the same production, the same vocal range, the same tone. There's no dynamic anymore.
It sounds like the dressners have full control over everything and it's a cut and paste song and spills over into all their other collabs as well.

Same same same
I haven't listened to either of the Dessner's other efforts but don't find this to be the case, thankfully.

Yeah this is my problem with them lately too. They're OK for a few songs but then man don't I gotta get my teeth into something spicier. But I'd argue they've almost always been like this. Just gotta be in the right mood for it. I really enjoyed them live because of how loud the drums were. Rumbled through your feet. Probably more of a venue thing, though. Big fan of the drummer.

Have a National playlist on random currently in the house, About Today from the studio was followed by the live version released on The Virginia EP. Perhaps the compass read really went awry when they attempted to capture that live sound within a fresh studio endeavor, can't catch lightning in a bottle.
Just a passing observation. Maybe they will break out Warm Singing Whores while on tour abroad.

I do think the one thing missing from their catalog is a definitive, Live on Two Legs-ish live document; they've had these offshoots, like the Juicy Sonic Magic thing or a live recording of Boxer, but something like a compilation pulling great performances together would be cool, and I think would be an eye-opener to a lot of people. I've been to a few National shows with people going for the first time, and they're always really surprised by how intense the shows and performances are, compared to the subtler studio stuff.
Try this on

Also listened to the 2023-08-03 show from New Haven yesterday. I'm glad the shows themselves have scaled-back from the rawk show nature that seemed to start in '18.

Welp... Couple songs in to 2023-09-30 and Matt's pushing his voice much too far already. It's like he's trying to fill the entire arena, like reaching every individual at an open air event... it really kills the show for me
