On Friday night at the Portland show, Matt did his usual "in to the audience with a super long mic cable" routine a second time during the encore. Came straight toward our spot while singing Terrible Love & hugged my wife on his way through. I think I may have lost her forever. Was a really strong show overall.

I’m a member of a Facebook fan group for The National. There is currently a thread talking about your ideal 25 song setlist (I cheated, this is 26 songs). After much listening and careful consideration, this is the setlist/playlist that I’d most like to hear. Hits, deep cuts, album variety, song flow, this set has it all. Let me know what you think!

other flaw: the national never does 2 encores
but man, i love the inclusion of demons, with possibly the best bridge of any national song
I know they don’t do two encores but the Facebook group that I posted this in specifically asked for 25 songs and I thought that this was the best 25 song setlist. The two encores make sense because of the material, not because it’s something The National typically does. Call it artistic license.

i was just nit picking
personally i would work cherry tree in there somewhere (i've always thought that would be a good 1st song at the 1st encore)
and i must say, i've seen available live, and they either nail it or it sounds like garbage. it's weird; there's no in between.
*sigh* i wish they'd play more songs from sad songs for dirty lovers

Sad Songs is such an underrated album. I really love some of those songs as much as later material.
