http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/11/m ... full-post/ Buzz Osborne (BO): Weirdly enough, by the late ‘80s we were making enough money, barely, to not have to have another job besides playing in the Melvins. We were very creative financially to make that happen. But this was long before the grunge explosion or any of that happened. We knew very well that we were probably going to do okay, but it was never going to be in the millions of people liking us. Nobody understood that better than me. So, I never had any false ideas that we were going to be million-selling pop stars. Cobain had that wounded junkie look that people at MTV thought was so amazing. But, honestly, if him or Chris Cornell looked like Fat Albert, they’d never have sold anywhere near as many records. Nobody would’ve cared. The whole package was there. Whether people believe that or not, it does make a difference. I don’t look like Chris Cornell, and I’m never going to. I’ve never had those false delusions. So, oh well, that’s how it looks. Once in a while it happens, where looks don’t matter. But I’m very at home with where all that stuff is. If somebody wanted to dismiss our band because of what we look like, then I can’t spend any time worrying about it. |

I can tell you the I am not swayed in my appreciation of art by the attractiveness of the artist. most of my fav artists are hideously ugly when I think about it. The Melvins just aren't that great, but they do have some good stuff. |

You speak to anyone in the music industry and marketing and they'll tell you it helps. I also agree that the Melvins didn't have the songs that Nirvana or Soundgarden did. |

Ok, The Melvins did it again, Basses Loaded is a wonderful album. Its full of different moments, its has a classic sound and yet, it feels new too...a more straightforward approach... The album opener " The Decay Of Lying" is already a favorite..and " Planet Destructo" is a incredible juxtaposition of both sludge and jazz...Fuckin Trevor Dunn he shines there. I just want, or need, to see these guys live again. |
