love/really like everything up to The Life Pursuit. Write About Love was okay.
the new album leaked and...on first listen its not good at all. i didn't like The Party Line but Nobody's Empire gave me some hope. disco-pop belle and sebastian is just something i don't want at all and it just doesn't play to their strengths. let's see if something grows on me.

Well, this grew on me quite a bit. It has some pretty cool tracks next to Nobody's Empire: Allie, Enter Sylvia Plath, Play For Today. The rest is also enjoyable enough. Too bad I don't really care for songs not sung by Stuart and there are three of them on here. Those songs seldom work for me with the exceptions being "Is It Wicked Not To Care?" and "To Be Myself Completely". Even though it's growing on me, I'm sure this will end up being on of my least favorite B&S records.
2 listens in. I like Girls in Peacetime..., but don't love it. Some of the songs are way too "electronic" for me. Still, Murdoch's lyrics are fantastic as usual and there are some real gems. Nobody's Empire and Ever Had a Little Faith are spectacular.

I put on The Life Pursuit while driving to have lunch at my sister's yesterday. To get there from here, I drive through two neighborhoods, pass three parks and glimpse the words of at least seven church signs. I had the windows rolled down and it was beautiful early spring weather outside even though things aren't quite blooming yet.
I didn't like this record all that much when it came out and would have never dreamed of calling it my favorite thing they've done, but I'm revisiting that now. Upon its release I thought it was too bouncy, too polished and had too many instruments. None of those things on their own are bad things, but back then I refused to admit to myself that Belle & Sebastian had more tricks up their sleeve than whispers, pianos and strumming.
Anyway, The Life Pursuit is a great work by Belle & Sebastian and I am happy that they put this one out before Stuart died. RIP 1968-2017.

Scottish band Belle and Sebastian found themselves without their drummer Richard Colburn at a gig in St Paul, Minnesota, after they left him over 500 miles away in his pyjamas in a North Dakota Walmart.

lol, that post was from February. When posting with the washing machine, you must always be on the lookout for these sorts of things. He's a lovable scoundrel that seeks to misinform every now and again.
