I genuinely don't understand this. I get that Chris's voice is showing its age, and the production is more crisp and compressed than their older stuff, but these songs do not sound to me like a band taking the easy path to a record. Non-State Actor? Been Away Too Long? By Crooked Steps? Those are all inspired compositional powerhouses.

The opening eight tracks are great together. I could take or leave the rest of the album, but the first eight are great.
