This is going to sell out quickly, but Graveface records is doing a benefit CD with tracks by Will Oldham, Will Johnson, Scout Niblett, John Vanderslice, Damien Jurado, and others; all covers of Jason's music. It comes with a signed, hand-numbered print of a drawing WIll Schaff did for Jason but was never able to deliver to him. All of the money raised from this is going to Jason's family, to cover outstanding medical bills and funeral costs: http://www.graveface.com/graveface-catalog.html

I think the idea is just to get it out ASAP. I haven't bought a CD since 2007, but I never even hesitated over the 'Purchase' button for this.

There's so much info on the Graveface page, it's hard to parse it all: the print was worked on in January, but it sounds like they're throwing the CD together as we speak. If it's a CD-R, I don't care.

from the press release I read, Jason's brother Aaron started contacting bands around January? not sure tho.

Hmmm ok, I didn't see that on the Graveface page. Either way, I'm on your side: vinyl would be great.

Doubt this has been circulating before, since it was just posted on Youtube yesterday: a video of a 23-year-old Jason Molina discussing touring, songwriting, and influence in 1997.

Which album would folks recommend as a good starting point to check out his body of work?

Songs: Ohia- Magnolia Electric Company.
Least that's where I started. Then I kind of worked my way backwards through the Ohia material--like Didn't it Rain and Mi Sei Apparso Come Un Fantasma. Then I kind of got into the Magnolia records.

The MP3s of the Graveface tribute CD were sent out today--34 tracks! I haven't listened yet, but I'll post a tracklist whenever I can. They've posted another track on Sound Cloud, from Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy): https://soundcloud.com/graveface/will-o ... y-he-witch
