Denver show coming up in a few weeks. never seen them live and am not super familiar with their collection. What should I definitely have a handle on? I feel as though their albums are musical pieces and works of art that need to be played in their entirety. So i should just get a hold on the most recent album?
You need to hear: from Agaetis Byrjun: Svefn-Englar, Ny batteri (definite crowd pleasing songs) from () : #8 Popplagio -> they will close the show with this, it will take 15 minutes and it will blow you away from Takk : Hoppipola (a feeling of total joy will take control of you when they play it)
They don't play much of the last album because they say the songs are almost impossible to recreate live, except Varuo. All in all, enjoy the show!

Also,
Saeglopur (from Taak) Varud (from Med Sud (by the way, their Take Away Show with Vincent Moon is probably my fav version of this song)) Festival (from Med Sud (which they finally started playing again!)) Songs #1 (Vaka) and 6 (E-bow) from ()
I can't wait to see them in Chicago. It will be my 5-year old's first concert (he can't wait either -- he LOVES Sigur Ros).

This is very useful information...thank you. I'm going to the Denver show as well. My first of theirs.

Picked up the new LP.
What?
I assume he means Valtari. Do you mean Valtari, chud?
I do. It's the first album of theirs I actually owned. I've heard most of their stuff from the early part of the aughts because all my friends were into them. I never disliked it, but it just never took with me. But I think I'm ready to really embrace this now and I was in Newbury Comics and wanted a record and saw Valtari so I grabbed it.

It's probably the only one you'll find in a record store for a while. I heard rumors that Ágætis byrjun will be getting a RSD re-release, but no official word yet.
I really like Valtari; it makes me want to go spend $500 on new speakers to hear all of the layers and textures. It's one of those records that will push your system to the brink.

They mentioned indeed in that internet chat thing they did recently they were going to try to re-release some vinyl albums. I only have Inni & Valtari. Would love to have (), Takk & Agaetis.
And indeed, Valtari is a great, rich album. Love it more & more.
You're late to the party, but you're still welcome, friend.
I think I'm gonna go backwards through the catalog.
There's really no wrong way to do it. Each album is distinct from the others, but I'd say Valtari is more similar in feel to ( ) and Agaetis Byrjun so that might be the easiest transition. They're all fantastic, though.

If you can swing it, do it. The Agganis seems like a big room for them but it's where they are now. Never know if they'll hit smaller stages later on but they are superb live... su-fucking-perb.

I saw My Morning Jacket at Agganis on NYE and it was a surprisingly good space for a concert. Not as echo-y or cavernous as the Fleetcenter. If you're gonna try and get tickets, though, try to get elevated seats in the bowl--the seats in the back on the floor are waaaay far away from the stage and might even be obstructed by the soundboard a bit.
